Essay about How to Manage Stress
The older I get, the better I handle stress because Ive learned from experiences. Personally, I noticed the difference as I got older and matured. I accepted the fact life is all about problems and it gets harder as you grow up, but I also get better at dealing with problems and coping with stress. People react differently to stress: some get motivated, while others get stressed and overwhelmed. In fact, stress has a negative effect and positive effect on our lives. Stress is a normal human experience and can help when dealing with demanding situations. There are many ways to handle stress, and simple techniques practiced frequently can really help. When the going gets tough, the tough get going, meaning when the situation becomes difficult, strong people will work harder to meet the challenge. Problems make us stronger, better, and able to handle life differently as we learn from it. Thankfully, stress is manageable, and a little stress can even help you perform better. This is often seen in students when studying for finals, and in athletes as they training for competitions, so dont worry stress might work for your sake.
Mentally strong people recognize keeping their bodies in smooth operating condition. I will exercise, maintain my diet that keeps me healthy, and get plenty of sleep. When I feel stressed and tense, I would go for a long run or a swim. Try to incorporate some physical activity into my daily routine regularly. Exercise goes a long way toward freeing my body of stress hormones and increasing endorphin levels. Physical activity will also improve the quality of my sleep. Sleeping restores energy reserves. If I dont get enough sleep, my body will use stress to keep me active, which stresses me more. A lack of sleep is a significant cause of stress.
Relaxing my body is a great way to reduce stress. I tell myself and my mind that everything will be okay. I listen to calm soft music and try to meditate to clear my mind. Music gets me relaxed and calm. I try not to think about whats stressing me, instead I think of something that gets me happy. I try to do things that I like to distract myself or talk to someone that I love as a family member to avoid thinking about what is bothering me.
I am usually stressed by the amount of work and schoolwork that I have, but I have been trying to set goals and manage that lately by organizing my schedule and doing things in order. I also cut down on other activities that are not prioritized, becoming more realistic about what I can and can’t accomplish in my day. I review my goals at the end of the day, think about everything I have accomplished, and plan for the next day. I focus on the solution, not the problem, whatever challenges me, I face it and learn from it. Seeking greatness in life and being the best version of myself will require a positive and strong mentality. Escaping from problems and not facing them is a loss in all aspects. Dealing with problems by not thinking of a solution or escaping from it by keeping it only for myself gets me to more problems emotionally and physically. Also, making an impulsive decision might lead to a bigger problem. I think of the solution when I am calm and share it with people that I trust and have more experience in life to get advice from them.
I stopped worrying and thinking about things that I could not change, like my dad’s death. It had a huge impact on my life, and it led to a huge depression, but I got over it and I prayed for him instead of thinking about it. Taking responsibility for making my life what I want it to be is less stressful to make decisions and take actions than to feel powerless.
Nothing else helps intensify stress more than negative thoughts. You know yourself better than anyone else, and you are the perfect person to remind you that it will get better. Remind yourself of all the things you have accomplished in the past. All those small accomplishments add up to a very big goal over time. Change the words you use. Instead of saying I can’t do that, say something like I’ve been able to get through it before, and I will get through it this time too.
I am aware of my surroundings and try to surround myself with positive people who have goals in their lives. Negative people will affect my life which may lead to stress. My attitude can be attributed to failure or success in life-based on my positive or negative mentality as well as my surroundings. Personally, since I am a foreigner who lives in a different country, I have been surrounded by good and bad people who have affected my life, whether good or bad, which made a huge difference towards my goals.
Many factors in my life can cause stress. Things like school deadlines, financial troubles, being away from family, and arguments can cause stress. A common cause of stress is having too much to do and too little time in which to do it. I try to manage that by meditating and thinking about things differently and understanding that life is ups and downs and you must be thrown in the fire to appreciate life and to take a moment to look around and start counting your blessings rather than complain about not having what others have. Focus on the good aspects of your life. We are here for a reason so be the best version of yourself and accept the fact that we all have power and weakness, so work on yourself by thinking positively to grow and succeed. Also believe that everything is written. Rough times are an opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed in life.
Stress can rob me of my ability to judge and prevent me from seeing things clearly. Talking about what stressing you through a friend, family member, or even a trained professional can help find solutions to stress and put problems into perspective. It’s always good to open up and talk about what is stressing you to someone you trust, or even writing it will make you feel better.
One powerful word that I have noticed the more you say it the more things will get better. Learning to say ‘no’ to unimportant requests will help to reduce your level of stress and may also help you develop more self-confidence. To learn to say ‘no’ is difficult. Many people find it hard to say ‘no’ because they want to help and are trying to be nice and to be liked by others. For others, it is a fear of conflict or missed opportunities. Remember that these barriers to saying ‘no’ are all self-created.
Managing stress is not easy for me or anyone else, but in the end, life is all about ups and downs, so enjoy each moment of it. Deal with problems and conquer your fear to grow and succeed in life. Dealing with problems that I would never imagine a solution for was very stressful and overwhelming, but that wasnt the solution for any of the problems. If you want to be successful, then feed the good in, not the bad. Find a solution. Think about the solution and seek it. We all face difficulties in our lives, so face it. Look for the good and seek the lesson because it will make sense to you at one point and you wont ever regret a lesson from life.
