Movements in the past have led to an increased amount of perseverance people are starting to build up. For the majority of the world’s population, success is considered ones biggest career aspiration. Perseverance allows us to keep moving even during arduous times and jump back on track as we try harder and never give up, and this is shown throughout Greta Thunbergs journey. Greta Thunberg is a 16-year-old Swedish climate activist who advocates for immediate action towards climate change crisis and by doing so, tries to protect the environment. Although she has Asperger’s syndrome and a history of mental-health issues, she continues to persevere and skip school to sit outside the Swedish parliament, and by doing so she appeals to politicians to act on the climate crisis and encourages students to start strikes to fight to fix the problems of climate change. Furthermore, recently she had been in the news for the wrong reasons, but Thunberg took those comments with emotional resistance and persevered as she created as call to action to fix climate change as it creates severe problems such as world hunger, the Australian fires, and a potential war with Iran. To this day Greta Thunberg is remembered as a person who had persevered to be as successful to make a positive change in society and encourages others to persevere and fight for what they believe in.
From past experiences, perseverance is a word I can choose and execute as my 2020 word. Last year was a time full of new changes and hardships, and as I look back, I wish I had persevered and worked a little harder during those arduous times. As I was involved in many clubs and extracurricular activities, it was challenging for me to complete my school assignments on time and still be able to maintain the recommended hours of sleep for an average teenager. Being in a band was a huge process of learning new ways to keep working hard and never give up as we learned challenging music, but I built my competence and was able to push through and persevere, Without perseverance, I would not have continued to work towards my goal and fulfill my aspirations, and thus, this new year I plan to work diligently and persevere as I endure through difficult times as I finish our 11th grade and 12th grade, take my SAT, and take more AP classes. Inspired by my past 2019 experiences, I plan to stick with a plan, persevere in the face of difficulties to achieve success and gravitate toward an optimistic life.
