I Am an Animal Lover and That’s Why I Want to Be a Veterinary Nurse: Essay
While many people claim that they realized their true love for animals and as a result decided to pursue a career in the veterinary field at a very young age, it was different for me, I didn’t really realize it until I was a teenager.
Now I can confidently say that I am a true animal lover. I realized this after studying biology in college when I had the opportunity to fully study the veterinary discipline, which brought me to a whole new world and broadened my knowledge about animals. Also, it made me realize that my intrigue with animals went far beyond the cute and cuddly parts. Then, when I worked in a veterinary hospital in China, this experience had a profound effect on my outlook even more and confirmed my personal and professional self-definition. It was then that I realized that my mission was to help animals, and that’s why I decided to become a qualified veterinary nurse.
After high school, I started learning Animal Science at Murdoch University, however, due to certain reasons, I only studied for one semester and then had to go back to China for three years. Even then, that didnt stop me from learning about animals, I graduated from the course pet care and training in China and started my work placement as a vet nurse in Shenzhen, China. I did my first placement at Chuangfan Pet Hospital; it taught me the importance of high-quality animal care and optimal health maintenance by providing routine treatments and the appropriate vaccinations. During the placement, one of the most significant moments for me was the first time I had to euthanize a dog. Although upsetting, this confirmed that I was strong enough to deal with one of the hardest challenges I could face. After this experience, I become more emotionally mature and with better interpersonal skills, all of which make me feel capable to be able to dealing with pet owners who may be angry or emotional, as a person I become more sensitive to an owners grief and feeling.
My love and care for animals, as well as the correct professional self-definition, was also confirmed when I worked as a full-time veterinary nurse at Mary’s Veterinary Clinic. This experience showed me many rewarding and exciting aspects. Participating in life-saving surgery such as gastric volvulus let me know we need to remain calm even in the face of a real emergency, and surgery to remove an abdominal cryptorchid that had turned into a tumor introduced me to the importance of early clinical diagnosis and the benefits it can have on an animal’s quality of life.
I sincerely love animals and I really want to dedicate my professional life to caring for them. Being a veterinary nurse is my calling, I am convinced of it.
