Introvert vs. Extrovert: Comparative Essay

According to Webster’s Encyclopedic Dictionary, personality is the visible aspect of a person’s character. Your personality is what other people see, so it’s not what you believe about yourself, it’s how you come across to other people. The word ‘personality’ comes from the Latin word ‘persona’, which means a mask, and also has associations with the word ‘role’. Personality, after all, is the sum total of all types of characteristics that an individual possesses, and is, therefore, the ‘essential character of a person’. In the context of personality, there are two types of personalities – introvert and extrovert – and they are opposite to each other. When you compare an extroverted personality or an extroverted person to an introverted person, it means that they like to live in the outside world more than the inside world, like to talk more than introverted people, and always want to make new relationships. It is these differences that I am going to explore in more detail later in my essay.

The first difference between extroverted people and introverted people is that extroverts like to live in the outside world more than introverts. They need social contacts, be they relatives, friends, or just acquaintances. They get pleasure from participating in various activities, they like to help others. Introverted people, on the contrary, try to avoid all this, because all this causes them discomfort. Introverts like to be alone for a long time, with their thoughts, and derive relaxation and pleasure from this.

Another difference is that extroverts love to talk, so they spend a lot of time talking to people. In addition, they tend to easily express not only their thoughts on this or that issue but also share their feelings and emotions. Introverts, in turn, prefer to communicate with themselves than with people, moreover, they very rarely share their feelings with others.

Finally, the last difference between extroverts and introverts is that the former always want to make new relationships and new friends, at school, at work, anywhere. But introverts do not have such a desire, they just want to be alone without people around them, which is why their circle of contacts is usually reduced to a minimum.

In conclusion, as this comparative analysis has shown, introverts and extroverts have significant differences from each other. Based on the fact that we live in a society with different people, we must respect each other and take into account in our interpersonal contacts the peculiarities and needs of each other according to the prevailing type of personality.
