Afro-Latino Family Health Assessment in Nursing
Introduction
Many people in Miami benefit from various amenities and resources provided by the Floridas state government. Family heads in this community are usually expected to provide for their children (Waters et al., 2014). The targeted family for this health assessment consists of four people. The nuclear family has two adults and small children. The father is aged 36 and the wife is 31. The two young girls are twins aged two and half years. The members of the family are African Hispanics. This essay will give a detailed health assessment plan for the targeted family. The essay will identify three nursing diagnoses and offer a short plan of care.
A Detailed Analysis of the Family
The size of this nuclear family limits the roles of each individual. The husband is the leader of the family. Some of his major roles include providing for the children, ensuring the familys goals are realized, and addressing every emerging problem. His wife supports him to take care of the twins (Ortega, Rodriguez, & Bustamante, 2015). The wife used to work with an insurance company before giving birth. The husband is currently the sole provider and earns an annual income of around $40,000. This discussion shows clearly that there is no other provider.
Each of the family members is healthy. This means that the family has never recorded any psychological or physical condition that can affect its functioning. The members of this family dwell in a spacious house with three bedrooms. The surrounding environment has clean footpaths and playing fields. The home is close to a road system. The family head is the one who supports the family financially. His salary is enough to cater for the needs of his wife and children. The husbands parents offer the required financial support whenever necessary (Grove, Burns, & Gray, 2012).
Human beings are expected to accomplish specific developmental tasks in accordance with their age. The father has completed his education and is currently earning a good salary. He has also married and capable of supporting the family. He offers the necessary advice to his wife. The wife has also completed her education and she has a family (Waters et al., 2014). She uses her skills and competencies to ensure the goals of the family are realized. The children do not have any developmental weakness or problem.
The selected family is successful because the individuals developmental states do not cause stress. However, taking care of the developmental needs of the twins has remained a big task for the mother. The support received from the father has led to positive outcomes. The mother uses the best approaches to ensure the twins needs are met in a timely manner (Waters et al., 2014). These practices have reduced stress in the family.
Every family must go through several developmental stages. The parents are in the childbearing developmental stage (Grove et al., 2012, p. 23). This stage begins when married couples get children. The individuals have been focusing on the best initiatives and activities in order to achieve the goals of the developmental stage. They successfully completed the tasks of the newly-married stage (Santos & Lima-Basto, 2014). This commitment will definitely support their future developmental stages.
The family head indicated that there is no genetic predisposition to disease in his extended family. However, the wife indicated that one of her parents had hypertension. It is agreeable that this disease can be inherited. The twins might develop the disease in the future. The other critical information is that of immunization (Grove et al., 2012). Every member of this family has been vaccinated against the major diseases affecting humankind such as tuberculosis and measles.
The twins in this family do not experience any medical problem. The parents have been providing the best healthcare to them from the day they were born (Ortega et al., 2015). The issue of healthcare should be taken seriously in each and every family. This family supports the health needs of its members. The individuals offer care and support whenever one of them is hospitalized (Muzio, 2013). The parents show affection and love to their children.
Families that function effectively are characterized by proper communication and collaboration. In this family, communication is taken seriously in order to deal with differences and emerging problems. The parents communicate effectively with their children (Edelman & Mandle, 2014). Communication is usually interpersonal in nature. The husband can also communicate with his wife over the phone. Such communication approaches have continued to support the familys success.
Decision-making is the other critical practice that dictates the success of a family. The members of this family use a powerful model to make adequate decisions. The two offer ideas and seek the audience of the other person. This form of collaboration is what delivers adequate decisions (Edelman & Mandle, 2014).
After conducting the research, it was observed that the family had no evidence of violence. The family head respects the rights and liberties of the other people. The mother shows the required love and affection to the children. The existing mutual respect and love prevents cases of violence. The family embraces the concepts of affection and openness in order remain stable (Edelman & Mandle, 2014). Crises are usually common in different families. These problems might arise from financial constraints or disagreements. As indicated earlier, the parents collaborate effectively in order to address the problems affecting them. Parents and friends can also be involved when a specific crisis gets out of control.
The health of this family is dictated by a number of religious and cultural factors. For instance, the culture guides them to eat a wide range of food materials. This practice has sustained the health goals of the family members. The religious views held by the family do not discourage them from getting appropriate medical services. Unfortunately, many Hispanics are predisposed to a wide range of diseases such as diabetes and hypertension (Muzio, 2013). The husband encourages her wife to be screened frequently. The other challenge affecting many Latinos in America is the lack of adequate healthcare services. These issues will definitely have significant impacts on the health outcomes of the family members.
Every family has its objectives and goals. The familys goal is emerge successful. The parents have been working hard in order to ensure such goals are met. The parents focus on the best education and health for their children. The other goal is to get a third child. There are various external sources of support for the family. For instance, the church plays a positive role towards guiding the beliefs and behaviors of the family (Muzio, 2013). Financial support is obtained from different friends. The parents of the husband also support the family whenever necessary. Internal support is obtained from the fathers salary.
Every individual in the family is aware of his or her roles. This practice plays a positive role towards minimizing role conflicts. There is also no role overload in the family. The other critical concern affecting the family is the absence of a proper emergency plan (Edelman & Mandle, 2014). This means that disasters can have detrimental impacts on the family. It will therefore be appropriate for the family to implement an evidence-based plan to deal with crises and disasters whenever they occur.
