Disaster: Typhoon in Philipines
A typhoon in the Philippines happened in 2020 and resulted in 42 deaths and millions of dollars in the lost property (The World Bank, 2020). Globalization might have contributed to this disaster because Touimi and Wagner (n.d.) note that developed states benefit significantly from this phenomenon economically. At the same time, developing countries struggle to receive equal access to the same opportunities. Hence, states such as the Philippines do not have enough resources to invest in resilience and prevention measures. On the other hand, globalization has helped the Philipines receive support from other states, including funds for recovery, food, medication, and different aid types.
When managing a refugee camp in Sri Lanka, some determinants of health should be considered. Biological and genetic factors are related to inheritance, age, and gender, and in Shi Lanka, most of the population is below under 15 years old, followed by 23% of people between 15 and 29 (Arasaratnam, 2021). Behavioral and psychological factors include the customs and traditions of these people, mostly Buddhists or Hindus, speaking Tamil, and residing in rural areas. Social, political, and economic factors to consider are the fact that the population is primarily engaged in Agriculture and it is a developing state with high levels of poverty, which means that the camp should be designed to accommodate the needs of refugees considering the potential long-term rebuilding of their home state. Environmental factors to consider are the fact that Shi Lanka does not have severe threats such as water or air pollution that would significantly affect the health of its refugees.
The Ecological (One Health) perspective that could be applied to prevent the pandemic of influenza is the care for animal health. According to Muraille and Godfroid (2020), 75% of infections and diseases that affect humans originate from animals. As a result, one healths attention to animal health can prevent the transmission of diseases to people.
