Effects of Dubai Quality Award on Organizational Performance in the UAE
Although ENOC is in an outstanding position in regards to its management quality metric, European Foundation for Quality Managements Excellence model or EFQM can still be utilized in order to make further improvements on the key issues of the business. It is important to note that the main strength of ENOC can be found in its high levels of flexibility. The EFQM model is comprised of three major elements, which are direction, results, and execution (The EFQM model, 2021).
Throughout past years, ENOC demonstrated proper results and a clear direction, and thus, further improvements need to be made in the area of execution. The execution part of the EFQM model is comprised of driving performance and transformation, creating sustainable value, and engaging shareholders (The EFQM model, 2021). One should note that ENOC needs to be able to sustain its current success and drive more improvement through transformation. Thus, major improvements should be made in the area of execution by focusing on the sustainability of its value generation.
Moreover, in accordance with the EFQM model, significant improvements can also be made in regards to shareholder engagement because previously, ENOC was fully competent at only enhancing stakeholder perception. However, the awards do not comprehensively reflect the involvement and engagement of shareholders, and the given part plays a central role in determining the effectiveness of the business. The company needs to become more proactive with them in order to ensure that value created in sustainable and awards impact is long-term. In other words, focusing a large portion of the companys efforts on its shareholders will help ENOC to be adherent to the EFQM standards.
ENOC has received the Dubai Quality award five times in the past, and 2020 marks its first Dubai Quality Gold award, representing the companys continued development and improvement. This award establishes a framework of grading criteria based on European Foundation for Quality Managements Excellence model, which emphasizes commitment to modern practices, sustainability, and innovation. The criteria for this award are flexible, which allowed the company to develop its practices to be effective, efficient, and sustainable in the face of past and current economic crises.
Business excellence such as the Dubai Quality award have a positive effect on a companys organizational performance, as well as related qualities such as human resources development practices. Thus, efforts to win such awards are conducive to a companys development and improvement, particularly where sustainability and flexibility are concerned. Winning the award, therefore, is demonstrative of the companys successful implementation of modern practices and ability to improve. Winning multiple awards over its lifetime is a demonstration of ENOCs ability to maintain its performance as well as its commitment to such practices.
A significant factor of the awards effectiveness as a measure of, and, simultaneously, driving force for improvement in a company is its flexibility. As the criteria used to choose nominees from each sector of business is based not only on direct measurements of a companys performance, but also its principles, leadership, and management practices, it evaluates not only an organizations immediate current performance, but also its resilience to current issues or crises. In the case of further improvements, ENOC needs to be more focused on ensuring that the company engages its shareholders and creating sustainable value.
