Evidenced-Based Staffing in Hospitals

This study investigates the importance of evidence-based staffing in hospitals. The analysis shows a strong correlation between the completeness of the staff and the quality of its service. It is important to form a team that is interchangeable and professional. It is concluded that understaffing can bring more costs than extra workers salaries.

Helping people to recover is a big liability and stress. That is why staffing is critically vital for every hospital or other medical institution. Poor quality work can cost lost lives or health issues for patients. There are many specialties that cover the treatment of different specific parts of the body or its systems. However, evidenced-based staffing helps leaders of hospitals provide a whole range of patient services.

An excessive number of employees is not welcome in most companies. Many organizations cut staff when difficulties arise and try to keep it compact because nobody wants to pay unnecessary money to needless workers. However, it can cost more to understaff the hospital in the medical field. It is cheaper to hire every expert they need in a long-term case than save money on salaries and run into liability problems that can cost millions. Nurses are usually underestimated, but they represent the largest group of hospital workers and are responsible for the majority of patient care (Haegdorens et al., 2019, p. 3). Every worker can get tired and burned out because of a workload and stress.

Especially in the medical field, workers face many issues connected to their state of mind because of everyday pressure. Olley et al. (2018) state that if there are more nursing staff at an appropriate skill mix level, then patient care and equity in staffing levels would improve (p. 5). Another significant reason to use evidence-based staffing is that proper staffing is better for patients. The more people receive great service, the better the hospitals reputation, which affects the financial component. As a leader, I would take care of the staff and make sure every required specialist is in the team.

To conclude, evidence-based staffing is an excellent concept for every hospital to grow and function properly. This type of team building helps hospitals and other medical institutions to provide high-quality service for all patients. It is crucial to have every specialist in every medical area that people can possibly need to be competitive in the market.
