Lady Sennuwy Statue of Ancient Egyptian Culture

This is a statue of Sennuwy, which was found in a tomb at Kerma. It was buried with a Nubian King three hundred years after Sennuwy died. The meaning of the Sennuwy statute is that it represents the new dynasty and the old Egyptian Kingdom. This statue is carved very well from the front side, but the artist does not put much effort into its back and leaves it to be hard (Ancient Nubia Now). The statues location at a Nubian Tomb meant that the Nubians observed Egyptian culture and respected it.

The statue depicts Lady Sennuwy sitting on a block-like chair, very attractive, attentive, and having her left hand resting on her lap. Sennuwys figure of art portrays a slim young woman dressed in a tight fashionable dress. The quality of this artwork is impressive, and it is carved in a spectacular manner. The artist took his/her time in polishing the statue as the lines of the face are carved precisely and are accompanied by a long thick wig (Ancient Nubia Now). The figure of Sennuwy portrays her as cooperative because she is relaxed in her seat and patient, so that the artist could do his job well. The statue is carved out of steel, and the face is shaped to portray the beauty of the first half of the Egyptian dynasty.

The right hand holds a lotus blossom, which depicts rebirth in Egyptian Culture. It is as if the front of the statue is a representation of the Egyptian dynasty, and the hardback portrays the old kingdom of Egypt. The blossom in her hand was put there to symbolize the new era in Egypt, which was the new dynasty (Ancient Nubia Now). The statute meant reincarnation, which implies that Sennuwy had been reborn as a new person under the watchful eye of Osiris. The artist polishes the face of Sennuwy for her to possess timeless beauty.
