Reading Scores Improving of Academically Gifted Students
Introduction
The reading skills are considered essential for the process of further acquiring knowledge. The process of learning to read through different methods introduced by instructors and scientists should result in good reading skills that are basic for understanding and apprehension of print information. Different students have abilities to acquire reading which vary greatly; some students are better in reading, others experience some kinds of difficulties. The process of reading has numerous aspects which should be analyzed and discussed. The aspect of improving the reading scores of academically gifted students appears to be one of the most interesting reading research topics.
Topics for the Reading Research
The topics are the core themes developed in the course of the research; some topics can be relevant and effective from the point of view of the authors who try to introduce new practices and methods into the reading process. For example, Kamil and Pearson et al. (2000) introduce such topics as literacy research around the world, methods of literacy research, and literacy processes, practices, and policies. This book presents the position of its author towards the problems existing in the area of reading and studying to read and possible ways these problems can be discussed. People with English as a second language and bilingual children can be discussed as had been in the book by, Kamil and Pearson et al. (2000, p. 791-835) As modern society happens to be multicultural and diverse, it is necessary to take into consideration the problems that can be encountered by readers from other ethnic groups or those who possess poor literacy (it can be noted concerning adults who acquire the reading skills).
Family literacy is one of the problems existing in the modern world; countries both developed and developing face the problem of an uneducated population. What can we say about adults who do not know how to read and cannot teach their children? Support in the family is one of the basic conditions for the successful acquisition of reading skills. As far as the government neglects the diversity of cultures within the society, the problem remains unsolved. Reading guides and technologically sufficient programs and methods should not be invented to let people lack literacy.
The problems concerning reading and education are the burning issues of modern society, though we pay little attention to the reading being skillful readers. The gifted students are a counterpart of this problem because they cannot enjoy equal rights with those involved in the process of study to read. When an academically gifted student encounters difficulties in reading, it seems to be ambiguous and unusual because intelligence is often characterized by literacy. The students that have good academic skills are not likely to experience problems of lack of literacy. Reading is the first step in the educational process; if one fails to learn how to read, he or she is likely to get low grades in the future because the whole system of education is based on reading and apprehending the materials. However, success in reading cannot guarantee that the academic skills would be at the same level as the reading ones. Naturally, people want to learn how to read and try to base their further educational experience on this specific skill.
