Speech about COVID-19: Data and Statistics

Do you believe in todays medicine, its possibilities, and treatment potentials? Doctors help us to stay healthy for long, in such a way, giving us the opportunity to lead our daily life without worries. We all know that modern medicine is the fruit of research lasting for centuries, multiple attempts, and, sometimes, inevitable changes in some individuals lives for the sake of science. As it develops, there are constantly newly emerging disorders and threats for the health of humanity. The category of infectious diseases presents a significant challenge for the contemporary health care system. Despite continuous investigations and intense work done in this area, it is still a source of remarkable ambiguity. One such contagious pathogen is a novel coronavirus named COVID-19, which is associated with acute respiratory illness (Dehkordi et al., 2020). I have done some research through reading scholarly sources on the topic of COVID-19 because it is a matter that profoundly impacted our life. And in this speech, I am going to discuss COVID-19 in detail, talk about its features, and share the impressive results obtained in topical studies.

Where Did COVID-19 Come From?

It is widely known that the named coronavirus came to us from bats. Let us stop blaming bats, they are simply deliverers in this long story of COVID-19 emersion. The new infection is, in fact, related to similar viruses of the corona family. Previously, most of those pathogens affected mainly bats, and this fact is the reason why people talk about these animals when they wonder about the origin of COVID-19 (Fenton et al., 2020). Here come the driving factors of the evolution onto the scene: some mutation events resulted in the vital change of the viral genes. Its consequence is the virus, which has a severe impact on people, our economy, and lifestyle.

Should We Be Scared of It?

The latest studies of COVID-19 show that the virus has detrimental effects on human respiratory organs. First, the virus affects the upper part of the respiratory tract, which contributes to the symptom which scares us the most nowadays: cough (Fenton et al., 2020). Second, the viral infection proceeds to the lungs of the affected individual. The bodys immune response starts producing combating cells, causing elevated temperature, which is the next well-known sign of COVID-19 infection (Dehkordi et al., 2020). Afterward, the clotting cells produced by immune cells block tiny blood ways, consequently bringing the organism to death.

How Coronavirus Affects People of Different Ages and with Other Diseases?

Many people are also concerned about the fact that coronavirus can be more lethal for the elderly and patients with other disorders. Actually, it is the case when statistics once again mislead a great number of citizens. Coronavirus has the same impact on every infected individual; the only difference is in the organisms response rate (Dehkordi et al., 2020). As young individuals usually have a higher level of immunity, the probability of their recovery is definitely higher. As a result, it is not about being young or old but rather about your immunity. It is better to remember that what applies to society as a whole can be wrong for certain individuals.

Sources of the statistics on coronavirus infection also usually state the number of people who had previous serious diseases. This measure is aimed at making the statistics less misleading but more accurate. Patients with preliminary conditions have low immunity, which profoundly impacts their situations (Dehkordi et al., 2020). Even healthy people who have smoking habits are also taken as a separate category as their cases are totally different from others. The decreased capacity of their lungs brings to the necessity of a more challenging approach to treatment (Dehkordi et al., 2020). Thus the sources for statistics show the information about severe illnesses like diabetes and chronic disorders to prevent wrong assumptions about COVID-19.

How Different Disciplines Collaborate to Combat COVID-19 and Its Consequences?

Recalling the experience of global lockdown, the world has shown to be unprepared for a sudden emergency. People were reluctant to give up their comfort and freedom for social benefits sake. At the same time, the governments of numerous countries failed to consult scientists and professionals effectively. Despite these gloomy descriptions, there are some instances of successful joint work of various specialists for the common good. Scientists from all over the world are working on an investigation of COVID-19 antibodies and the preparation of vaccines (Dehkordi et al., 2020). Much redundant work would be accomplished if the computational biologists did not systematically coordinate the results of individual researches. Furthermore, this is the first global case when there is a substantial necessity in cross-disciplinary work. It can inspire future generations for unified problem-solving, which has proven to be more effective than any other previous approaches.

Should We Refuse Taking Vaccine?

One of the most frequently discussed topics of COVID-19 is the theories about mass control with the help of vaccine fluid. This suggestion, undoubtedly affected by sci-fi literature and cinematography, has become the reason for conflicts between citizens and authorities. Even though the theory resembles the truth, and is significantly supported by the government opposition, it is just another rumor that has spread uncontrollably (Dehkordi et al., 2020). It means that there is no need to be scared of the work of the scientists who are trying their best to return us to our ordinary life as soon as possible.

Conclusion

To conclude, COVID-19 is a dangerous pathogen that affects our body on the cellular level. It presents a challenge for the contemporary medical professionals and governments. Its target is our respiratory system, where the virus penetration results in loss of vital functions. People with a low level of immunity are most vulnerable to the symptoms. Knowing the features of our todays enemy can help us to stay united and decide on our daily life wiser. The pandemics have shown us the importance of cross-disciplinary studies. This experience might incredibly benefit our future. There are hopeful prospects of this situation, including the production of the long-awaited vaccine.
