Team Collaboration: Processes and Expectations for Communication

Effective collaboration requires early involvement and the availability of appropriate resources (Crow, 2002; Maddux, 2003). To achieve our objectives in the development of an extremely clean, professional, clear and easy to navigate and a dynamic institutions website, our team members share ideas and information in the most explicit communication channels. Fresh ideas in the development of the website are first channeled through the group leader a position that is held by all the members on a rotating basis. The ideas are then presented on the blackboard (An online center of idea convergence) where team members are given the opportunity to analyze the suggestions. Discussions are then finally held to point out the strengths and weaknesses of the submissions.

Role Determination

The distribution of the team members is a process that is voluntary. Each and every member is allowed to select the sections and departments in which they feel suited to perform best. This is done to increase the level of groups commitment and involvement. The graphic designer will be charged with the responsibility of designing the sketch of the site that involves the creation of interesting, creative and light weight graphics. The rest of the committee will review the work and submit proposals for amendments. The group Overseer who has a wealth of experience in web design will then assess the sketch in terms of its clean and professional outlook. The group secretary who is in charge of the group materials will then present the available content to the rest of the group for review. Different versions of the site in terms of the graphics and content will be presented on the blackboard and the results will be subjected to a vote where each team member will not only vote for one site but will also give adequate reasons for his or her choice.

Group Conflict Resolution

Pressure in the course of work may give rise to role or group conflict. The design of the work process is that group conflict is minimized through clear guidelines on each and every team members roles. In the event of a conflict, the group leader intervenes so that a resolution is amicably reached in a manner that the objective of the group stay in focus. The members are requested to stay online and active during the process of conflict resolution so that all members take part in the resolution process and the parties reach an agreement.

Expectations for participation

All the team members have been requested to outline the amount of hours they are able to devote to the project on a daily basis. Because of the general fear that not all members participate equally in a project (Freshman, Rubino, and Chassiakos, 2009), there is a general agreement that all members are continuously reminded to remain committed. In every discussion session, each and every team member is to provide a suggestion or submission.
