The Film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by Newell
Introduction
The film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth movie in the Harry Potter franchise. The main character was returning for his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, together with his allies, Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) (Warner Brothers, 2020a). At the time, there was an upcoming tournament between the three major learning institutions of magic. One participant was selected from each school by the Goblet of Fire. When Harrys name is called, despite the fact that he is not eligible and is a fourth player, he decides to compete in these dangerous contests. A movie is viewed through literary aspects and elements such as plot, protagonist, narrative, theme, special effects, and cinematography. Therefore, this presentation will be a personal view of how these devices are effectively utilized in this film.
Protagonist
The protagonist in this film is a boy named Harry, who is known in the community for surviving the curse of a strong wizard. He comes out as a teenager who is always involved in dangerous explorations and accomplishes them unhurt. In terms of character and mental psychology, he represents good intentions, innocence, childhood imagination, genius, and responsibility, in my opinion (Palupi, 2022). Further, much of his personality is defined by his desire to live up to his fame, and he comes out as a boy who does not like to be praised, or given special attention. Furthermore, Harry portrays himself as someone who has a strong belief, bolstered by bravery, that some people will always get him out of any situation alive.
Plot
The film is full of teenage drama, violence, jealousy, kidnapping, and sexual advances, all of which revolve around the main actors. For example, one ghost female character expresses genuine and obvious sexual interest in Harry and attempts to watch him necked while bathing at some point (Warner Brothers, 2020a). Jealousy is demonstrated between Harry and Ron in an altercation that leads to both of them swearing. As the events continued, Voldemorts soldiers invaded the venue, destroyed items, and caused injuries to many. In almost all the tasks, characters have their lives threatened by magical beasts and dangerous locations. This is reflected in how Harry is injured and tortured by the enemies, and the movie scene is tense and disturbing.
Narrative
Throughout the film, dragons are used to represent the danger that follows Harry to the end. It is revealed during his chase with a Hungarian Horntail in the Triwizard Tournament (Brearton, 2018). The use of both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds demonstrates the dragons role as a figure of danger, which then creates tension about Harrys safety. Further, when it is clear that he almost overcame the dragon, a loud song is played, which confuses his victory in the tasks and shows the audience the danger he was facing. Additionally, sounds help the audience feel that he could win eventually. Additionally, music in my opinion could mean the battle between good and evil in the film. Further, the on-screen appearance of dragons shows the dark forces that plague Harrys life.
Themes
This film was created with an array of conflicting themes such as integrity, forgiveness, bureaucracy, international cooperation, intolerance, and oppression. Firstly, Harry comes out as a boy who shows honesty despite the many challenges he faces (Rowling, 2022). For example, when he had an easy opportunity to take the Triwizard Cup because Cedric was trapped by the shrubs, he decided to free him instead of taking advantage and letting him suffer. Secondly, international cooperation is brought out by the two sporting eventsthe Quidditch World Cup and the Triwizard Tournament.
Examples of Themes
Sporting activities show the importance of mixing cultures from various communities. Forgiveness is revealed when Harry and Ron, Ron and Hermione, and Harry and Cedric reconcile after squabbles. Further, the audience is equally presented with the bureaucratic aspect of the magical world. At the Quidditch World Cup, Percys boss mentions a wizard from another region who is attempting to import magic carpets. Lastly, as far as intolerance is concerned, there seems to be too much evidence that non-human creatures are enslaved by human beings (Rowling, 2022). This theme is reinforced by having the students study a topic called the goblin rebellions, where the creatures try to fight their oppression.
Special Effects
The main event takes place during three tasks that are difficult and dangerous in magical settings. This was followed by an event in the Black Lake, where participants dove to recover what had been taken from them. The soundtrack is nice and fits the setting well, and the characters gave a good show despite some of them showing a bit of childhood awkwardness. Personally, I find the sexual attraction the kids had to be offensive for their ages (Warner Brothers, 2022b). The dark mark in the film is a good symbolic effect of contemporary politics that normally attracts large crowds who are oblivious to the danger they present in their lives. There is an astonishing underwater sequence, a carriage drawn by seven Pegasus-like creatures, and a cheeky quill pen with a character all its own. This leaves the audience with the mysterious and beautiful belief that it happened in real life, although it is computer graphics.
Conclusion
This firm is very short despite the fact that it was created from a voluminous book. It attempted to recreate a fantasy world through interpersonal drama, trailer-friendly displays, and summer cinema. Each challenge put the participants in deadly situations, but in a funny way (James, 2022). The movie ends with Harry and Diggory uniting to claim victory in the Triwizard Cup, which signifies sportsmanship over competition. However, I believe it would have been better if it had not been overtly frightening to the audience.
