Understanding Bullying Victims And Helping

Intro

Physical bullying increases in primary school, grows in middle school and decreases in high school. Verbal abuse, on the other hand, remains constant. Why do people do it? What makes someone bully another innocent person, especially when that other person, hasnt done them any harm? What is our world coming to? We need to work out why, because bullying happens everywhere. It happens at school, at work and even in the comfort of your own home. Bullying appears a lot in movies, books, and tv shows. Verbal bullying is one of the most dangerous forms of bullying. It includes name calling, insulting people about their weight, characteristics, culture, and religion. A lot of people dont even realise when they see other people are getting bullied, because it happens in our everyday lives. Sometimes when it happens adults say, its fine, theyre just kids or theyre young, theyll learn that its not ok.

My first argument is that I think some students skip school because they dont want to be bullied. My second argument tells a story about a strong independent woman and, my third argument considers what can be done to stop this life-taking problem.

Paragraph 1

Although there are many programs to help teach adults and kids about stopping bullying, bullying is still occurring. Over 200,000 students are victims of bullying each year. 1 in 10 students skip school at least once a week because they possibly dont want to be kicked, punched or emotionally torn to shreds. So, why do we bully people? Some reasons why bullying occurs is because it makes the bullies feel good about themselves. Sometimes, they bully other people just for the sake of encouraging others to dislike them. Most people think that a couple of mean words doesnt matter, and we can get away with it, but no, they are mistaken.

There is so much emotional damage done to the victim of bullying. Imagine how youd feel if someone called you fat or ugly or said things like, you cant do anything, or you’re dumb. You would feel upset and down, wouldnt you? Now imagine that being said to you every day. People bully others just to get a few laughs out of it at the expense of someone elses pain. It really shows how cruel bullies are.

As I was researching, I saw this quote and it really stood out to me. Screaming at children over their grades, especially to the point of the childs tears, is child abuse, pure and simple. Its not funny and its not good parenting. It is a crushing, scarring, disastrous experience for the child. It isnt the least bit funny – Ben Stein.

Paragraph 2

Now, moving onto my second argument a story about a brave woman. A little girl was bullied at a school in New York. She was told she was annoying, and ugly because she had a large nose. She was called terrible names that a developing mind should not know. As she got older, she started to sing. Singing was her only way to escape the bullying. She worked very hard and enrolled at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts. At the age of 19, she was dropped from a record label that was going to drive her into a huge career. But, that did stop her. Even after years of verbal abuse and failing to start her singing career, she kept on trying. Eventually, it worked out for her and her debut album The Fame included the hit song we all know, Poker Face. She was nominated for 6 Grammy awards and after this, she became a big star. In 2018 she released her first movie, A Star is Born co-starring Bradley Cooper. This is the story of Lady Gaga, an independent woman, capable of anything because even though she has been through so much through-out her life, she still manages to be so courageous.

Paragraph 3

What can we do to stop bullying? Put yourself in the shoes of someone thats being bullied, how would you feel if you were them? Imagine what theyre going through, stress, confusion, embarrassment, shame, depression, physical illness and even fear of their own safety.

As a victim of bullying, we can stand up for ourselves, face the bully and tell them calmly how you we feel and tell them to stop. Many people that see bullying are too scared to tell the bully to stop because they dont want to be the targets themselves. Sometimes it can be hard for bystanders because they dont know what to do and make up excuses for not doing anything.

Be the first person to stand up. Just because nobody else is courageous enough doesnt mean you cant stand up and do what is right. Imagine having the power to save someones life? That would be cool wouldnt it? Now, what if I told you everyone can. By reporting someone bullying someone else or stand up to the bully and tell them to stop. Did you know bullying usually stops in minutes if a bystander/friend steps up and takes action to support the victim. Schools need to do more to stop bullying from occurring. It makes a big difference. What is a bystander you might be wondering? A bystander is someone who sees or knows about bullying happening to someone else. Some bystanders take the side of the bullying and will laugh, encourage and sometimes even record the bullying happen. Others watch the bullying quietly.

Conclusion

In conclusion, bullying is everywhere. I happens to kids and adults. It doesnt matter how old you are, or whether youre rich or poor everyone has either been bullied or is the bully.

I would ask you to think about a time in your life when you were bullied. Then, the really hard one, I want you to think about a time in your life when you were the bully. I bet you feel ashamed? You wish you hadnt done it? You wish you could take it back. Except, you cant. Once the bullying has happened, the damage is done. So, stop and think before you say things, laugh at others (even if youre not the one making the joke).

Feel brave enough to say something and stick up for someone else. That person will never forget that and what you did for them, maybe even for their whole life. Its easier to bully, than to stand up to one. I know which one Id rather be doing.
