Urban Sprawl and Its Mass Transit System

Urban sprawl is the quick expansion of towns on undeveloped land close to cities. These extensions have distinctive features such as single house zoning and heavy reliance on vehicles for transportation. Urban sprawling has been associated with traffic as the only way people access the city is through public or private transportation. Most transport and road systems have been advanced to meet the needs of moving the suburban population to the towns (Bosch et al., 2019). Therefore, mass transport has effectively facilitated the movement of these people to cities.

The rising populace in towns has increased commuters using the mass transport system. It has increased the transport cost for long distances, particularly from home to workplaces and other destinations. Thus, a pattern of sprawl occurs where there is good transport infrastructure (Trivedi & Dohadwala, 2020). The above system has been effective since people can walk from their homes to nearby stations, thus increasing physical activity. It has improved efficiency in fuel usage and reduced air pollution. Moreover, the transport system has decongested roads as commuters board one vehicle compared to personal automobiles, thus enhancing equitable transport for everyone. Conclusively, mass transportation has played a significant role in ensuring that cities are accessible to the town population.

The mass transit system can be made more effective by offering diverse modes of transportation from the bus, train, bike, to taxi. This is a perfect way to meet the desires of those particular passengers who commute daily. Moreover, relevant authorities need to introduce more digital applications to incorporate community and private transit services and even book and pay for amenities (Maulidiyanti, 2018). However, going multi-modal does not have to raise general costs: instead, it should enhance the future of practical, convenient transit.

Providing information and appropriate training to all stakeholders in the transport industry is a guaranteed way to progress their experience and improve the service. Upgrade infrastructures such as motorways and railway lines and enhancing traveling schedule systems will strengthen the sector. For instance, waiting for a bus or train, which is unclear at what time it will arrive, makes the wait feel longer. This makes it challenging for individuals on their journey, for they have no specific time to work within. Moreover, installing a passenger information system that shows arrival times updated in real-time is beneficial in ensuring waits feel short and encourages more customers to trust the transit system.
