Acquiring skills in using the library’s online databases and retrieving appropriate articles is essential for current and future courses… not to mention for a BSN-prepared nurse. Review the various resources and video tutorials within the EBP and APA modules in Canvas.

Search Strategy:
Utilize these limits: full-text, English, research, dates within the past 5 years, and peer-reviewed.
Article Selection:
The article should detail a single QUANTITATIVE research study. A mixed-methods study that is both quantitative and qualitative is acceptable.
a. Review articles discussing many studies are NOT to be selected.
b. If the article focuses on one specific study with purpose, research question, surveys, findings, and limitations, it is a quantitative research article acceptable for this assignment.
c. If it mentions interviews or focus groups, it is qualitative research and is NOT acceptable.
Title Page:
Create a title page. You may use the sample paper as a template.
a. The title of the paper should be related to the topic of your specific paper rather than the specific words Evidence-Based Practice Assignment.
b. Do not use the title of your article as the paper’s title.
Body of Paper:
The body of the paper should include the title as a level 1 heading. Write a 1 paragraph summary of the article (max 1 page double-spaced).
• Identify the research population
• Identify the research question, along with its importance and relevance
• Summarize the study design, research methods, and results of the study
• Discuss concerns related to limitations, conflicts of interest, or generalizability of the study Include these elements following APA guidelines:
a. Paraphrased statement from article with parenthetical in-text citation
b. Short, direct quote from the course textbook using narrative in-text citation
NOTE: Introduction and conclusion are not necessary for this assignment
Reference Page:
Create an APA formatted reference page. The sample paper also has this formatted with hanging indents.

a. Review the APA manual to formulate the proper citation for your article based on whether a digital object identifier (doi) is available or not.
b. Using software for APA formatting is not recommended. Do not use the APA feature in Word as it does not allow faculty to insert comments and tracked changes.
c. Use the Cite feature of the database, but remember to make necessary APA corrections.
d. Remember to include a reference for your textbook.

APA/Grammar:
• Follows APA 7th edition mechanics of style and rules of grammar.
• Free of grammatical, punctuation, & spelling errors.
• Writes in third person active voice. Avoid personal pronouns and referring to self in the third person.
• Organizes paper in a sequence of well-structured, smooth-flowing paragraphs.
• Adheres to page limit (1 page), excluding the title page and reference pages.
Peer Review:
Partner with any classmate in the course for APA feedback and make necessary changes. This may be done by email attachment.
In the “Text Submission—Write Submission” part of the Canvas assignment, write:
1. Your partner’s name
2. Summary of recommended changes to your partner (2-3 bullet points or sentences)
3. Summary of suggestions your partner gave to you (2-3 bullet points or sentences)

Submission Instructions:
The assignment must be saved with the assignment type, student’s first initial, and last name before being submitted (e.g., EBPassignment BSooner)
Attach two documents for this assignment:
Submit the Microsoft Word document for instructor grading.

Guidelines & Grading Criteria:
Select an electronically retrievable research article on a contemporary issue in nursing from current nursing literature. The issue should highlight nursing’s unique position within the healthcare environment and interdisciplinary team. This article must be from the CINAHL Ultimate or Ovid MEDLINE database accessed via the OU library. See the attached document and Canvas rubric for detailed assignment guidelines and grading criteria.
