Purpose:
This assignment focuses on the state of nursing education in the United States and the influence technology is having on nursing education and staff development. In Module 1 you will read about nursing education in the US; a variety of nursing competencies and standards; and the regulations and performance standards that influence nursing education at the federal, regional, and local levels. Since didactic education is not usually looked at separately, you can focus on nursing education in general. The goal is for you to illustrate the connections/relationships among the regulations, competencies, and standards of nursing education in higher education as well as the influence of technology on nursing education and staff development. You will be building a concept map or an infographic to illustrate these concepts and relationships.
Steps for Completion:
First, read all the required reading assignments in Module 1. Considering all of this information, create a concept map or infographic illustrating the relationships among regulations and standards, and the variables influencing didactic education in nursing education and staff development. Your concept map or infographic should illustrate connections/relationships among the following:
How nursing education can be impacted by federal regulators, and regional and program-level accreditors, and the applicable nursing competencies and standards.
How organizations that accredit higher education institutions and nursing education programs (CCNE and NLN CNEA) apply accreditation standards. In staff development, you may want to look at the impact of The Joint Commission or health care accreditors on nursing education.
How the current state of higher education positively and/or negatively influences nursing education and staff development, the development of evidence-based practices, and the need for resources (such as the need for qualified nurse educators).
You can differentiate the connections/relationships among the various concepts with different connectors, and/or illustrate different concepts with a variety of colors or shapes.
