Overview:
Parents play an imperative role in the human growth and development process including introduction of values, beliefs, lifestyles, habits, consumer choices, cultural traditions, relation to others who are similar or different from our families, emotional & social intelligence etc. For this reason, increased attention is being given to the role of parents have in learning and promoting sustainable, mindful living practices for current and future generations.
The goal of this assignment is to leverage AI (artificial intelligence) data along with evidence-based psychological research to create a psychoeducation program to support sustainability within families. This assignment will be a fusion of current AI data, evidence-based psychological research publications and integration of key theories/models explored this semester. Creativity and innovation are encouraged in your program design.
Completion of this assignment by meeting the content required as outlined below will help students be eligible for up to three extra credit points added to the final grade in this class.

2. Select AI Tools: Describe the AI tool(s) you selected and explain how it is being used to create your psychoeducation parenting program (ChatGPT, OpenAI, Gemini, etc.). Specify if AI tools will be implemented in your program, if applicable. Since AI is still considered experimental technology be aware of inaccurate or misrepresented information that may be provided. It is important NOT to cut and paste from an AI program, especially since your submission will be through Turnitin.com, an anti-plagiarism system. You will be utilizing the AI program to generate ideas and your overall outline.
3. Psychology Research: Select two psychology articles from peer-reviewed journals related to your topic of choice. You will need to access PsycInfo via the FIU Library system to identify two articles relevant to your topic published between the years of 2018-2024. Since we cannot rely on AI for health, wellness or other forms of professional advice the integration of psychological research in your program outline is an important aspect of this assignment. The two publications need to be provided in APA format on the final page titled, ”References”. It is important to obtain this information from a database such as PsycInfo or ERIC to ensure they are reliable sources, especially since AI technology is actively addressing reference accuracy. It is highly discouraged to locate an article for this assignment on the “world wide web” since this may result in your assignment being flagged by turnitin.com & the system’s AI plagiarism detection process. Discuss the relevant psychological theories and research findings that will inform your program design. Explore research with keywords relates to behavior change, motivation, parenting styles, cultural factors, environmental psychology, etc. Identify evidence-based strategies published that addresses sustainability and sustainable behaviors for children/teens, parents and families.
4. APA Format: As an upper division course this assignment this assignment is required to be submitted via APA-style format. This includes the cover page (which will include the title you selected), a running head, references, etc. Your final submission will be typed, in 12-point font, double-spaced, and at least five to seven pages in length (which includes your cover and reference page).
a. Introduction Paragraph(s): This will be your opportunity to provide an overview of a environmental sustainability issue of your choice and highlight the importance of family involvement/engagement as part of the solution. For the first paragraph provide an overview of the current problem for the topic you selected inclusive of related facts, pertinent findings, statistics from reliable sources, etc. For the second paragraph provide an explanation of how and why parents can play a role in addressing the problem as well as why they are important figures in creating eco-friendly education/solutions for their own families.
b. Program Design: Provide details of your psychoeducational parenting program design. Explain how your program would be delivered and evaluated. For example, will your psychoeducation program be a webinar, workshop, social media live, in person, etc.? Discuss how AI can be integrated into the program (e.g., chatbot, personalized recommendations, recipe generators, gamification).
For the body of your program develop a detailed outline of a parenting intervention program that can provided in one session/workshop. Identify specific modules, activities, exercises and resources you would utilize in your AI driven parenting program to support sustainability. Highlight how AI may be integrated into each component of your proposed program. You are encouraged to consider interactive games, educational resources, virtual reality, facts, figures, etc.
Provide resources for parents to further research how they can continue to learn more about eco-friendly family choices. This may include your knowledge and recommendations of important non-profit organizations supporting a cause, social media influencers, who they can follow to learn more, podcasts, community resources, helpful websites, etc.
Identify the nature of habit development and ways to support habit changes for parents. Identify common human biases that could potentially affect parental receptivity to the information provided in your program and how you can present this information in a supportive, non-judgmental manner. Identify the influence of how changes in the microsystem as outlined by Bronbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory have a ripple effect on making positive changes within the context of other systems/relationships. Also refer to Prochaska as it pertains to helping your audience explore factors that can inform readiness for change for the individual, family and larger society/culture. Include other psychological theories if you would like and if they are relevant to your program.
c. Discussion and conclusion: In the final paragraphs, provide reflections of potential benefits and limitations of your program. Explain how the theories we explored in this course are relevant to the research publications you selected and the inquiry process you conducted while utilizing an AI program. Address ethical considerations when using AI, future directions and how this resource may help promote education for parents and families.
d. References: For the final page, provide a listing of the data you utilized to complete this assignment APA-Style.
