Consists of one critical thinking question and two responses to two different questions from other students posted that week. Your question should pertain to the material covered in class within the last three lectures.
The purpose of these exercises is to (1) develop abilities in critical thinking, (2) learn how to use supporting evidence when making a claim, (3) learn multiple perspectives from your peers, (4) enhance writing skills by crafting detailed answers to peer questions.

How does metamorphic rock affect industry and culture?
We know that sedimentary rock has a major impact on industry and culture as it is the main source that we have of archeology. All fossils are stored in it, and it is the source of many natural resources like coal and petroleum. But has metamorphic rock had a similar impact? Metamorphic rock is created by the rock undergoing fairly extreme pressures and temperatures, often with water, deep within the earth’s crust, most commonly five to 35 kilometers deep, making it much harder to reach than sedimentary rock. One way that we use it today is in architectural materials. For example, granite is metamorphic and is very typically used in architecture. For example, culturally, asbestos was once hailed as a very useful and popular material that has not wreaked havoc on many people in retrospect, and asbestos is metamorphic.

What makes bedding (in context of rocks) so important?
As we know, bedding is the layering of sedimentary rocks. This can be due to several factors, such as deposition conditions. We learned that there are two different types of bedding: cross-bedding and fossil beds. Each of these beds can allow us to reveal the earth’s history. This makes bedding important. That being said, what are some other aspects that make bedding so important? Is bedding only significant because it can reveal the earth’s history, or are there other reasons? Is bedding not important at all? Why or why not?
