Total quality management (TQM) may have been the first quality-oriented philosophy to transition into healthcare. TQM is based on three principles—(1) continuous quality improvement (CQI), (2) customer focus, and (3) teamwork.
Since its transition, additional quality improvement models have evolved. Three of the more common or well-known of these models are listed below.
Shewhart Cycle (PDCA)
Six Sigma (DMAIC)
Lean (5S)
 
For this assignment, you will research and analyze the three quality improvement models—PDCA, DMAIC, and Lean.
For each of the improvement models, you will complete the following: 
1. Conduct an analysis
Describe the steps in each model. (2 to 3 paragraphs)
Describe how the model be applied to achieve quality improvement in healthcare organizations? (2 paragraphs)
Consider your current or future employment, and describe how the model be applied to achieve quality improvement in the agency, company, or organization. (1 paragraph)
2. Summarize what you learned (1 paragraph)
Provide a summary of your knowledge gained about the differences between the three improvement models.
3. Cite your References:
