Many people initially enter human services to help others. After trying to support people in managing their daily living problems, some human services professionals decide to intervene at a systemic level by starting a nonprofit organization, becoming involved in management within an organization, or working with a community to have a broader impact. This requires an understanding of the human services system.
Human services, broadly defined, is an interdisciplinary discipline that focuses on prevention and remediation of problems and helping people improve their quality of life, as well as promoting these issues at a systemic level (NOHS, n.d.). In this assessment, you will discuss the qualities needed in a human services professional as well as the human services systems within which they work.
