PART 1: Review the selected short videos demonstrating the teachers’ implicit or explicit classroom management plans, now called Proactive Classroom Behavior Management Plans (PCBMP). Analyze the ineffective classroom management and instructional/teaching strategies which led to problems. Consider their remedies and how you could improve the situations. Observe the relationships teachers developed with their students. In David’s scenario, consider possible SEL strategies that could have prevented or intervened with behavioral dysfunctions. For Joe’s scenario, consider possible instructional strategies that could have prevented or intervened with behavioral dysfunctions. You will need these video analysis and annotation skills to pass your CalTPAs. Pay attention to how you can use high leverage practices (HLPs) in preparation for your CalTPAs.
INSTRUCTIONS: PART 1 Field Notes
Complete field notes on how you would prevent or intervene with the dysfunctional behaviors seen in the two classroom management videos. Describe alternatives to the ineffective classroom management strategies used by the teachers or created by the gaps in their Proactive Classroom Behavior Management Plans. Describe what you would do for both the prevention side and the intervention side with SEL strategies for David and instructional strategies with Joe.
INSTRUCTIONS: PART 2 The Integrative Essay
Describe three key takeaway strategies that you can use to ensure your classroom runs effectively to avoid the undesired behaviors in the two videos. Summarize how you’ll implement these learnings into your practice. What preventative measures can you put in place to maximize learning? What intervention strategies can you plan to minimize disruption to learning? Do not repeat and summarize your information from the field notes, but rather extrapolate and condense the best takeaways applied to your practice. Use APA7 as you write your essay.
