OPTION 1:
Question: How can an organisation enhance employee motivation by addressing both organization-specific and industry-wide challenges, with a critical analysis based on McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y and Adams’ Equity Theory?
Your individual report (2250 words) should focus on a large organisation of your choice (e.g. Amazon; Apple; Google; Microsoft; Tesla; etc.).
a) Please start your report with a brief introduction section (about 300 words), which presents the topic you are researching and why it is important, background information relating to the organisation, as well as the aims, scope, and structure of the report.
b) In the following section (about 300 words), please discuss the employee motivation issues faced by your chosen organisation. Note that the motivation challenges can be both industry-wide and organisation-specific.
c) In the next section (about 1400 words), please utilise McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y (a content theory) and Adams’ equity theory (a process theory) to analyse and critique your organisation’s stance toward employee motivation.
d) In the final section (about 250 words), please draw conclusions based on the critical analysis you performed in the previous sections, and please offer specific recommendations as to how employee motivation can be improved by the organisation.
Please note that you can use some of the readings under week 2, where the main topic is motivation, to answer this question. Additionally, you can incorporate relevant ideas from readings that fall under the other weeks to enrich your report further, and make it more multidimensional, although this should not come at the expense of coherence. As well, you can display your capacity for independent research by incorporating some outside sources (e.g. journal articles, industry reports, books, etc.) that are not on the module list, by undertaking a Google Scholar search on key search terms for your topic. To enhance your analysis in section b and section c, it will be useful to consider critically the relevant information that may have a bearing on employee motivation on the company website; additionally, you can utilise authoritative media sources (e.g. newspaper articles) involving the organisation and speaking in some way to this topic area.
