The purpose of this assignment is to read and reflect on a book which addresses systemic injustice as it affects a given population or populations with intersecting identities. Critically reflect on what is communicated in the book and how these concepts impact you as a social worker and the social work profession.
Analyze and reflect on the concepts that the author is communicating in the book. Think about how their perspectives may be helpful in our current social climate and/or how they may hinder the current social climate.
Write a 3-5 page paper, APA format, include a cover sheet (this does not count towards the page count) addressing the following:
Briefly summarize the main points that the author is making in their book.
What are your personal reactions to the book? What points resonated with you and what points do you disagree with?
Discuss three things that you learned about yourself in regards to social justice issues, human diversity and various types of oppression such as racism, sexism, mental health stigma, sexism, ableism, etc.
Do you believe that this is relevant to social workers and social work practice? If so, how? If not, why not?
How do you see yourself incorporating these concepts into your work as a social worker and in your personal life? If not, how will you proceed to address the current social climate?
