For this assignment, you will write a college-level research paper describing the psychological and behavioral factors of individual terrorists (i.e., recruits and suicide bombers, not terrorist leaders). Note: You will address different radicalization processes/models in the final paper, such as Moghaddam’s Staircase, so you only need to research and discuss individual psychological and behavioral factors in this paper. Also, remember that “psychological” does not mean “psychotic,” and we are only addressing those of sound mind who deliberately choose violence for a political purpose, retribution, or to instill fear (not mass shooters with psychological issues). 1. Introduce your topic, with at least one paragraph briefly discussing each of the following: the psychological factors and behavior factors that you will be writing about as part of your brief introduction (2 paragraphs) 2. Discuss the psychological factors that you believe are important and how they relate to individual terrorists (1 1/2 pages) 3. Discuss the behavioral factors that you believe are important and how they relate to individual terrorists (1 1/2 pages) 4. Provide a conclusion, summarizing your paper in a clear and concise manner (1/2 page). – Your paper must be at a minimum of 4 pages (the Title and Reference pages do not count towards the minimum requirement). – Scholarly and credible references should be used. At least 3 scholarly articles are required for this assignment. – Scholarly sources include peer-reviewed articles, government publications, and academic texts. – Type in Times New Roman, 12 point, and double space. – Students will follow the current APA Style as the sole citation and reference style used in written work submitted as part of coursework. – Points will be deducted for using Wikipedia or encyclopedic-type sources.
