Role of Information Technology in Airline Business

There are several reasons why I chose to discuss the role of information technology in the aviation industry as it covers range of information regarding innovations in the airline sector. Firstly, in recent years, air travelers from all over the world have wanted to choose their location, pick an airline provider from the numerous available ones, purchase their tickets easily, and make any requisite adjustments. When boarding, customers, anticipate that the entire experience will be dependable, and quick. Secondly, flying is hard for both people and businesses; companies aim to use any new technology that may offer them an advantage in the fiercely competitive air transport sector. Therefore, advancing information technologies (IT) and information systems (IS) have been used to speed up, and increase the reliability of the boarding process.

Introduction to Information Technology in Airline Business

Global economic behavior has completely transformed with the advent of highly sophisticated technology linked with information technology, liberalization, commercialization, and globalization. As one of the largest and most deeply interlinked global infrastructures, civil aviation connects everyone everywhere and at all times (Pramudya, Sudiro, and Sunaryo, 2018). Airports and airlines are a countrys economic engines for expansion and development. Therefore, the exploitation of information technology has put the general security of passengers, crew mates, and the aircraft industry at risk, even though civil aviation is a spectacular but delicate sector. Today, information and communication technology (ICT) is the foundation of every airport, aircraft, and air traffic control system.

Furthermore, due to privatization and the development of information technologies, the aviation sector has seen a significant transformation during the past 30 years. IT and the internet have created a distribution channel that connects airlines with potential clients more directly (Pramudya, Sudiro, and Sunaryo, 2018). Furthermore, airlines have sold tickets through a variety of means. In the past, they have traditionally sold their tickets through direct channels, such as their sales outlets and call centers, as well as indirect channels, like travel agencies, tour operators, and integrators. Searching for and buying airline tickets online has become commonplace in the travel industry (Sukhorukov, et al., 2019). The paradigm of how airline tickets are distributed has evolved, and new options are now available. Airlines have acknowledged the internet and IT value as information sources and a means of income. Hence, this report aims to look into various IT applications and new projects employed in the air transportation business.

Applications of Information Technology in Airline Business

Airlines have long looked to technology to help them operate more efficiently in a highly competitive climate with narrow margins and mounting regulatory and environmental concerns. A new era of distinct consumer experiences that can foster loyalty has arrived due to technological advances, which is crucial in a market where it is harder than ever to stand out (Chae, Koh, and Park, 2018). Information technology makes many tasks easier, such as ticketing, inventory control, and reservation administration. Since the airline company has numerous branches and distributors worldwide, effective communication is necessary. Therefore, they are helped to sustain these functionalities globally by good information technology systems (Chae, Koh, and Park, 2018). The airline industry uses a variety of internal systems for various tasks to ensure smooth operation. Hence, the companies benefit from numerous management and decision-support tools that lower essential process management faults.

Benefits of Information Technology in Airline Business

Air travel has always had a close relationship with information and communication technology, profiting from and advancing the fields simultaneously. Modern consumers require specialized and interactive services because they are more knowledgeable about IT systems and have access to information, making them smarter and demanding (Suppatvech, Godsell, and Day, 2019). The worldwide air transport sector has been redesigned and changed by the development of ICT. It has been shown that centralizing data is essential for the growth of air travel, business, and the conversion of dispersion into an electronic market.

Future Perspective of Information Technology in Airline Business

Future airports and travelers will benefit from the adoption of digital technologies. Digital technology increases efficiency, which lowers costs and enhances the passenger experience (Sukhorukov, et al., 2019). Since airports are primarily business organizations, they have a stake in the satisfaction of their clients. Digital technology has the potential to offer travelers genuine, palpable advantages. Fewer delays and higher rates of baggage clearance are both expected outcomes of improved flight management processing (Suppatvech, Godsell, and Day, 2019). End-to-end biometrics will also improve the passengers experience of traveling through airports, allowing them to enter the facility and go through it in a touch-free, seamless manner to the airplane.

Conclusion

The trend toward more aviation system interconnection and dependency is advantageous. Additionally, it can also serve as a target for those looking to disrupt the sector and the global economy. Therefore, maintaining a culture of cyber security is crucial today. Due to commercial aviations relentless pursuit of innovation, safety and dependability have reached previously unheard-of levels, and the world is now confident in the systems strength, attentiveness, efficiency, and resilience. The worlds aviation system is, however, approaching a turning point. The worldwide aviation system is becoming more connected as ICT is implemented across the industry. To maintain sustained confidence in aviation, the full effects of the rising connectivity and reliance on ICT must be understood in light of the evolving cyber threats.
