Standard Sports Facilities for Nigerian Students
The study conducted by Eruteyan (2012) evaluated the standard facilities of sports as images of competitive sporting attributes from the university students of Nigeria. This study was conducted prior to the reappearing arrogance of universities to release winning techniques in the sports. The researcher pointed out that the universities had been performing exemplary in such areas as literature, politics, drama, music, and science among others. However, the condition of elite performance and championship within the sporting fields were not elaborate or influential in the nation. In this regard, they hypothesized that the presence of standard sporting facilities within the universities could not create a considerable image of credibility from the university students of Nigeria. The research data was collected through questionnaires containing fifteen items. They were issued to 153 personnel holding offices within the sporting departments and 270 scholars from the 9 institutions. The participants came from the Southern Nigeria in respect to 3 geopolitical zones. They applied an ex-post factor study design from these nine institutions. The data was analyzed through inferential and descriptive statistics depending on whether it was 0.05 significant. This study indicated that the presence of the sporting facilities took an outstanding participation in elite sports performance for the students. In this regard, the researchers recommended that the universities owned by the state and federal governments ought to be motivated in hosting Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA).
The article presents an empirical study containing reliable information and adequate data collected from the universities. The data is sufficient to reduce the errors expected from the inferential and descriptive statistics. Furthermore, the presentation is made in a clear and elaborate manner where topics are labeled as dictated by the standard empirical studies. The information from the background is presented through adequate support from the literature. Also, the research has considered randomization of the collected data to prevent biasness. In this regard, the researcher formulates the study zone and segments it as south-south, south-east, and south-west to facilitate the random collection of the data. There is a coherent relationship between the hypothesis, background, and finding of the research. The findings show that the first question of the research is answered from the data. However, the research fails to present elaborate literature review connected to this study. The topic of literature review is not presented within this article. This failure implies that other researchers may not refer to the relevant history and other issues of the Nigerian sports. In fact, they cannot tell whether other nations act like Nigeria in the university sports.
This study is relevant to my future research topic. It is about sport, its facilities, its purpose, and the art behind applying innovative ideas within the prevailing winning systems. Other research topics can arise from the discussions and recommendation of the study. For instance, it is relevant that the universities ought to become the institutions where the elites of sports graduate. Unfortunately, there is little apparent literature considering players as winners or scholars within the universities. Furthermore, the article does not only enlighten about the institutionalized system of performance, but also dictates the state of willingness that can arise in respect to such a fundamental idea. In fact, its empirical nature approves it as a reliable source of literature review for my future study. Therefore, the relevance and accuracy of this research can facilitate the application of the study in the final topic.
