Aspects of Fitness in Adolescents

Boys and girls experience significant changes during puberty and become adolescents. Differences mainly affect physical changes, and emotional changes are similar. Girls become taller, acne may appear, and their body shape changes the hips become wider, and the breast grows. Moreover, hair grows in the armpits and around the pubis, menstruation begins, and discharge from the vagina (Physical and emotional, 2019). Boys also become taller and more muscular; their hair grows under their armpits, on their faces, around their pubis, and on their bodies, hair becomes darker, and acne may appear. Boys also have voice changes, genital growth, and wet dreams (Physical and Emotional, 2019). Emotional experiences in adolescence become deeper, the mood can quickly change, and sexual interest appears. While sport is an essential element of well-being during adolescence, it is necessary to ensure its accessibility for adolescents and assess risks.

It is vital to maintain an active life in adolescence because it can affect their future. However, there are several obstacles preventing teenagers from actively playing sports. In particular, they may not have motivation, role models, or opportunities for activities. For example, the place of residence and education significantly determine the possibilities for sports (James & Brophy, 2020). To overcome these reasons, it is necessary to inform about the importance of physical activity and maintain accessibility to various sports opportunities.

An attractive option for physical activity for adolescents is an organized sport. However, it has both advantages and risks that one should assess before participating. Organized sports contribute to physical and psychological well-being, supporting health and developing discipline. It also helps understand the value of teamwork, helps develop social skills, and even improves academic performance. The key risks of sports are injuries fractures, concussions, dislocations, bruises, and similar problems. Thus, adolescents need to play sports, but it is crucial to make it with caution and take care of themselves.
