Modern technologies are revolutionizing the way human beings share ideas, pursue their goals, and solve emerging social problems. Such inventions streamline communication processes and guide people to make informed decisions. Broadcast media is essential in educating, training, and informing the targeted audience. However, those who use these innovations stand a chance to experience both benefits and possible challenges associated with them. This analytical paper describes the dangers of social media platforms and how they can ruin peoples social and romantic relationships.
Impacts of Media on Relationships
Some social media users tend to suffer from anxiety and depression due to its addictive nature, thereby having higher chances of affecting their relationships in a negative manner. These mental challenges will make it impossible for them to engage in sincere conversations with their colleagues, lovers, or even family members (Yacoub et al. 54). They might ignore the emotions, expectations, and experiences of those near them, and eventually become less involved in activities that used to be interesting before. The affected individuals will continue to rely on different social media platforms as the only source of consolation. Those who fail to seek timely treatment will have higher risks of developing mental illnesses and eventually becoming unsuccessful in life.
Prolonged use of social media can result in negative interactions between siblings, parents and their children, or individuals in romantic relationships. The affected people will have minimum opportunities for communicating efficiently and improving their interpersonal competencies (Abbas et al. 1689). The level of bonding will decline after a short period and eventually affect the stability of the relationship. The occurrence of these challenges makes it impossible for the individuals involved in such a relationship to engage in sustainable social exchange. For example, some could stop sharing ideas to solve their common problems. Others could find it hard to learn more about their partners expectations and social cues (Abbas et al. 1691). Any relationship that lacks the engagement of the involved individuals will definitely fail and make it hard for them to be successful in social communication.
Human beings engaged in various relationships need to improve their social skills continuously and apply them accordingly to make them healthy. However, social media addiction is associated with increased levels of envy and loneliness.
