Micro Policy Advocacy for a Pregnant Teenager

Teenage pregnancy is an acute issue all around the world. When analyzing the topic of teenage pregnancies, one can see the detrimental impact of poor sex education and how it can result in low quality of life for parents and children. Thus, when facing the issue of teenage pregnancies, authorities must aim their efforts at improving sex education and providing social services to support pregnant adolescents.

The contribution of policy and regulatory contexts to teenage education, in general, is minor. Many teenage mothers come from underprivileged communities of immigrant Latino parents (Jansson, 2019). Most of them fear contacting healthcare establishments due to deportation, and they attend continuation schools due to discrimination in public schools (Jansson, 2019). They claim to have received minimal schooling on the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases and unprotected intercourse (Jansson, 2019). As a result, policy and regulatory contexts that contribute to such a problem involve poor education, discrimination of education personnel, and lack of proper advocacy that must come from social workers.

Regarding the advocacy framework, several challenges can be reviewed. Challenge 2 accentuates the necessity of findings as the main focus (Jansson, 2019). Here, it is necessary to focus on underprivileged Latino communities. Challenge 5 emphasizes the need to develop a strategy (Jansson, 2019). It can be helpful to provide both online and offline resources and social work services that will offer better sex education and social work services in terms of civil rights.

To conclude, authorities must direct their legislation and policies toward improving sex education as preventative measures and provide social assistance to help pregnant teenagers. Due to prejudice in public schools, young mothers avoid going to healthcare facilities out of fear of being deported, and they attend continuation schools. Challenges 2 and 5 with regard to the Multilevel Policy Advocacy Framework might be taken into consideration.
