Global Nursing Issues: Challenges, Strategies and Advocating for Health Care

Challenges

Every person is entitled to quality health support and care. Unfortunately, many underdeveloped nations find it hard to deliver quality health care to their citizens. This problem affects many nations due to various factors such as corruption and brain drain (Mills, 2014). The first outstanding challenge that makes it hard for the countries to deliver quality care is the lack of enough healthcare workers. The number of caregivers and physicians is small. The practitioners are overworked and understaffed. Such issues explain why more people in these nations do not receive quality or timely health services.

The second challenge is the lack of adequate resources to support the quality of care. The underdeveloped world grapples with poor leadership and corruption. Consequently, funds are misappropriated thereby making it impossible for many healthcare facilities to function effectively (Mills, 2014). The targeted patients lack medications and timely services. The absence of equipment and safe working environments affect the quality of health services.

Strategies to Address the Challenges

Several measures can be implemented in these nations in order to ensure quality medical support and services are available to more clients. The shortage of healthcare providers requires an evidence-based approach. Governments in these societies should identify new strategies to attract, hire, and empower medical practitioners. The education system can be redesigned to meet the needs of more learners and encourage them to embrace the profession (Mills, 2014). Nurse aids and volunteers have the potential to minimize the impacts of this challenge. Better salaries and remunerations can encourage more nurses to join the profession. These measures will address the problem and ensure more people have access to exemplary medical services.

The second challenge requires adequate policies that can transform the situation. Every government can implement such policies to ensure the targeted resources are available to every population. Individuals at risk should be given priority whenever allocating medical equipment and resources (Mills, 2014). Corrupt leaders should be prosecuted in order to discourage the malpractice. Governments should come up with proper guidelines and monitoring systems to ensure the resources are used adequately. Consequently, more people will have access to adequate and quality health care.

Advocating for Health Care at the Global Level

Nurses have a role to transform the manner in which quality care is delivered to different clients. Nurses should advocate for health care at the global level because they are trained and empowered to do so. The best strategy that can be used by nurses to achieve this goal is that of policy or program implementation. Within the past five decades, nurses have been driven by the decisions and policies implemented by different players in healthcare sector (Breda, 2012). However, there are various issues that are unique to the profession. That being the case, nurses will use the strategy to promote specific practices and action plans that can improve the quality of care available to the global population.

This strategy will be effective because it begins by considering the unique needs of the nurses. The implemented programs will be informed by the skills and goals of the nurses (Mills, 2014). The programs will be matched with the needs of populations depending on their cultural, economic, and social attributes. The nurses will identify the right approaches, stakeholders, resources, and support systems to deliver sustainable health services to the global client. Consequently, the strategy will support the health needs of more people across the globe.
