Pharmacology and Influence of Antibiotics
Abstract
This paper is a valuable summary of the critical foundations of pharmacology theory. Throughout the essay, both the fundamental conceptual concepts of science and the science-based properties of drugs are described. In particular, the paper discussed the beneficial properties of probiotics, onion, and elderberry extracts.
Natural Medicine Paper
The study of natural medicine is based on the recognition of the high value of natural components for human health. This idea underlies all pharmacotherapeutic therapies since drugs are used as agents rather than direct medical interventions. It should be noted that each biological drug, whether a component of plant or animal systems, has unique clinical properties. For example, pharmacokinetics studies the chemical processes of transformation of the active substance in the body, whereas pharmacodynamics identifies the substances mechanisms of action on internal systems. In addition, even the same drug substance has different potential in different patients, which is a central statement of the science of pharmacogenetics. It is essential to understand that a unique population may have specific therapies related to their condition. For example, pregnant women should be careful with diabetes or HIV medications, and the elderly should not inadequately combine medications for Alzheimers disease. For the onions, elderberries, and probiotics in question, there are no critical limitations for unique groups. Taken together, it is possible to establish that natural medicines have unique physiological effects, which means that their clinical study is a priority.
In order to simplify the use of biologically active natural substances, it was decided to introduce a classification of pharmacotherapeutic drugs that include these molecules. In particular, onion extracts can be used to treat digestive problems, which forms a category of the same name; in addition, probiotics (live microorganisms) also have a positive effect on the gastrointestinal tract (Rawlings, 2013). Cardiovascular medications target abnormal conditions of the heart muscle, and it has been shown that onions can effectively inhibit angina, lower blood pressure, and inhibit the development of atherosclerosis (Onion, 2019). Another group of drugs is anesthetics that suppress various pain syndromes: for example, elderberry leaf extracts are actively used for sciatica, neuralgia, and even CFS (Elderberry, 2019). In addition, a severe cohort of pharmacotherapeutic agents is psychotropic substances that actively affect cognitive states. For example, probiotics have been shown to be excellent for stress syndrome, anxiety, and depression (Adikari et al., 2020). In contrast, there is questionable evidence of placebo calming potential for elderberry extracts, but this requires further research (Tiralongo et al., 2016). Anti-infective medications aim to eliminate pathogens from the body or strengthen the immune system.
While recognizing the evidence-based efficacy of natural components and herbs as a clinical treatment, it is also important to discuss strategies for educating patients on the proper use of medications. Excess food in the diet in an attempt to maximize treatment effects can be harmful, so it is critical to educate the patient on dosing regimens. In addition, the culture of the community should be individualized, and alternatives to culturally prohibited foods should be used, if available. Finally, it is critical to pass on the knowledge of the need for adherence to course prescriptions so that the patient does not interrupt treatment early or prolong it on his or her own. Any drug, even onions, has adverse effects when abused, and the patient should be made aware of this. A nurses legal and ethical responsibilities include clearly monitoring patient compliance with doctors orders, adhering to the professional code, and prioritizing client health care.
Although pharmacology continues to evolve, serious barriers and obstacles to progress still exist. The diseases epidemiologic nature has the potential to overwhelm providers and thus shift focus (Blaschke, 2009). Simultaneously, the growing uneducated population and the failure of government reforms may lead to a broken health care system and thus a loss in the effectiveness of scientific methods. Finally, the development of antibiotic resistance is the most threatening factor because it renders pharmacotherapeutic methods useless.
