Psychosocial Interventions in Family Nursing Practice

Peer-reviewed scholarly articles are regarded as an important instrument to expand the knowledge of researchers and inform scientists about the recent events. It is stated that the quality of articles is an important factor in evaluating knowledge generation at the global level (Ahmadi, & Soori, 2015). The following paper deals with the methodology assessment of the article titled Influences on clinical reasoning in family and psychosocial interventions in nursing practice with patients and their families living with chronic kidney disease. The methodology of the article will be identified, as well as the reasons for choosing these particular methods.

The research methodology includes such aspects as study design, sampling, data collection, and analysis. Study design usually detects what kind of data is to be collected, which groups are selected for data collection, and when this event will take place for each group. The analyzed article is identified as qualitative research based on collecting such data as nursing self-reports of psychosocial interventions. The selected group of participants is registered nurse practitioners who work with the families of patients with chronic kidney disease. The analysis was made with the help of hermeneutic inquiry to study this type of nursing practice in recent years.

Research sampling describes particular groups that participate in the study. Its main objective is to reduce costs and time to do the research and to improve information quality. To do the sampling, the specific population is identified, the sampling frame is specified, and the needed data is secured from the sample. The authors of the given article use nurses recruited by nursing managers and educators. It is emphasized that inclusion criteria were: employed on an inpatient nephrology unit as a Registered Nurse (Thirsk, Moore, & Keyko, 2014, p. 2120). Sampling sizing is noted to be small for this research because the individual cases are believed to be most helpful in problem understanding. Therefore, only seven nurses participated in the survey.

It is generally recognized that the data for qualitative research is collected by researchers rather than delegated individuals. Qualitative research concentrates on the specifics of the collected data and pays less attention to the methods of data collection. For the discussed research, the nurses interested in participating were interviewed by the main author or his assistant. The collection of data took place in 2012. The author used an unstructured interview with questions varying for the participants while maintaining the general idea of the conversation as required by hermeneutic inquiries. The interviews were recorded to be analyzed later and assisted in discovering several new patterns related to the researched subject.

For qualitative research, data analysis is interactive and generally inductive. It usually identifies the relations of themes and categories, as well as verifies hesitant answers to casual, descriptive, and associational questions. Competent analysis of data should involve some skepticism and use evidence for testing the findings made during the research. The analysis in the discussed research was made by using the results of the interviews and appropriate reviews of books and scientific articles. The obtained data were discussed with the second author to conduct a proper analysis and explain its results.

The described methodology of the article was selected because the authors believed that it was the most effective for studying the impact that the interventions of registered nurses have on the families with patients suffering from chronic kidney disease. The interview analysis was made to identify particular types of patients behavior explained by their situations and environment. The explanations provided by nurses varied according to the interventions they made, which proved that the methodology might be selected correctly.

The following paper deals with the methodology assessment of the article. During the assessment, the methodology of the article was identified, and its main aspects were described. The reasons for selecting this methodology were provided as well.
